Welcome to Ela with Ms.FItzgerald
I am so glad you are here.
For the next week before we let out for Holiday Break, we will be intensely focusing on argumentative writing. We have been so very busy working on benhmark testing and it's time for us to get some good writing instruction in this week. For homework this week I will be asking that students be editiing and revising whatever writing we get done in class. If you would like to assist your students in their writing I will leave resources on here now and throughout the week. Happy holidays everyone, looking foward to making your students better arguers and celebrating the magic of the season!

As you all know fall break starts starts on Friday, October 7! This week we rolled out a new part of our standard and have been working on making Inferences. The students have been doing an excellent job using what they already know and pairing it with what a text says to determine what will happen next. Reports cards are also coming out soon, and so it was a light homework week in room 3140. I have given the students opportunity to spend time at the Fix-it station and also be working on anything they may have missed during the time they are off on fall break! On Monday (9.26) we continued working on our objective: Students will be able to cite several pieces of textual evidence in order to support an analysis of what a text says explicitly. On Monday students received a packet containing the story Papa's Parrots. In that packet were some new vocabulary words. Merely Ignored Clusters Perch Shipments Their homework was to complete the vocabulary log attached below. Thursday 9. 27 is the final day to turn in this homework. Tomorrow Thursday ( 9.27) Students will be assigned the following article and be required to write two paragraphs responding to the following. In the first paragraph (At least 5 sentences): State the main idea and support it with two pieces of textual evidence. In the second paragraph (At least 5 sentences) Write your opinion on the article. newsela.com/articles/nba-protest-talks/?utm_source=email&utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=web
Our objective for this current unit is: Students will be able to cite several pieces of textual evidence in order to support an analysis of what a text says explicitly. The vocabulary words we have pulled from this objective and started studying on Monday 9.19 are
Students have been working on Frayer models for these words in order to create deeper understanding of our objective and most importantly so we can understand WHY we are learning what we are learning. On monday students were assigned to finish their Frayer models for homework but we went over them in class so they should be complete. Today: Thursday 9.22 students were assigned the following homework in ELA class!
